Another masterpiece from post-rock band Spill Harbour has just been unveiled — ‘Filaments‘, dropped last 13th of December and is now available on all your favorite streaming platforms and on Bandcamp.
“Filaments” is a brilliant evolution of the Davao post-rock band’s sound, combining emotional post-rock with hints of pop, creating a grand, cinematic atmosphere. Undoubtedly, the band has pushed their craft even further with this latest release.
Describing their music as “instrumental/emotional post-rock,” guitarist Pol Marcos explains that Filaments blends the atmospheric intensity of post-rock with elements of pop, aiming for a “grand aesthetic”. The vision was achieved by layering keys and orchestral textures into the fundamentally guitar-driven structure of the song.
“The entire song was recorded live, all four of us playing together without a click track,” Marcos shares. “We just added the keys afterwards to elevate the sound.”
Drawing inspiration from bands like Mae, Copeland, and Death Cab for Cutie, Spill Harbour has crafted a sound that speaks to both the heart and the mind. Their goal is to reach a younger audience who may resonate with the intimate and introspective nature of their music.
In terms of the visual design, the cover art of Filaments beautifully reflects the essence of the track, depicting a weave of filaments in space—symbolic of the interconnectedness and the infinite possibilities that the song evokes. As Marcos explains, the track’s title refers to “how sparks illuminate filaments with a glowing, pulsing sense of the infinite present,” which perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the song.
If you’ve enjoyed Spill Harbour’s previous releases like the recently released Sleep, you won’t want to miss Filaments. You can listen to the track on all major streaming platforms. The band is gaining increasing recognition for their unique sound and approach to post-rock, making their music something music fans need to experience firsthand.
