Cebu pop rock artist Carlo Mesina’s fans are about to witness the culmination of an artistic journey as he releases his last track, “Cut Me Loose From This Chair,” from his debut collection, “Peculiar Assemblage” on December 15, 2023. This release marks the completion of Mesina’s much-anticipated debut musical anthology and Peculiar Assemblage in its entirety is now available for streaming and purchase on all major digital platforms and Bandcamp.
“Cut Me Loose From This Chair” delves into the profound desire to break free from the shackles of past fears and anxieties. Mesina shared that the track is a personal journey, the final stroke on the canvas of his debut collection, symbolizing a triumphant escape from the struggles of anxiety. The song draws inspiration from Mesina’s personal struggle with anxiety.
Mesina opens up, stating, “it actually is the last song from the album, and I kind of just went in and decided to write a song about how much of a struggle my anxiety was back then.” A reminder that life is a balance of peaks and valleys, the new is not just another song; it’s an anthem for those striving to break free from their own metaphorical ”chairs” . Mesina aims to reach everyone facing personal struggles and strives to convey the message that perseverance is key.
The creative process behind “Cut Me Loose From This Chair” was a collaborative effort with Vince Lucero, who handled mixing, mastering, and production. Mesina casually played with words and melodies, creating a unique synergy with the producer. As Carlo puts it, “we both enjoy how simultaneous we were with things.”
Mesina and Lucero found their inspiration by delving into archival 2000s music, blending it with contemporary vibes. The most challenging aspect of the release? “Crunch time. It was the last song I had to record from the album,” confesses Carlo.
The eye-catching album art for Peculiar Assemblage features a portrait by Junell Tanio which perfectly captures the essence and theme of the collection.
Mesina expresses his gratitude upon the completion of Peculiar Assemblage, saying, “I feel nothing else but gratitude. I could finally take a breather. This is the cherry on top of everything. “
