MANILA, Philippines – Irrevocable has just released their latest track “Not Much To Miss Out” on streaming platforms, a starkly contrasting follow-up to their recent release “Email“. The new song also features a music video that serves as a sequel to the previous track’s video.
Formed in 2017, Irrevocable has earned a reputation among their audiences for short, intense songs that hit hard and run deep. Fans who have been riding the wave since the debut EP Where Is Home? and the follow‑up Generational Curses will immediately recognize the band’s knack for mixing serious lyrical themes with a dose of self‑deprecating humor.
The new track “Not Much To Miss Out” sits comfortably alongside the gritty anthem “Email,” showcasing the group’s ability to shift from blistering riffs to melodic hooks without missing a beat. The new track was arranged with a more pop-oriented sound in contrast to the aggressive hooks of “Email”.
“In ‘Email’ my goal, as well as for [drummer] Edzcel [Neria], as newly minted members of the band was to cram as many riffs as possible in under two minutes,” shared guitarst Jom Grana. “‘Not Much to Miss Out’ presented a different problem: can you still cram as many ideas while letting the song breathe?”
The slower pace of the track was partly a necessity for the band as part of their incredibly high-intensity on-stage performances. “‘Not Much To Miss Out’ switches gears for a gentler beat and softer hit,” shares bassist Ino Grana. “We intended for this to be our rest song from aggressive blast beats in our live sets.”
Despite the contrasts between the two tracks, guitarist Tani Carino shares that both ‘Email’ and ‘Not Much to Miss Out’ were written to be connected. “Though the subject matter is different, they were made to always be in tandem live, in the music videos, and on the final record,” he shared.
Lyrically, the song, penned primarily by vocalist Lenian Gaspar-Carino, tackles themes that are both socially relevant and personal in a way only Irrevocable can. “The song is about not raising children and adding another soul to this planet, when the world is slowly crumbling,” shares Gaspar-Carino. “There’s not much to miss out when you’re being born into a rat race.”
At the same time, however, the song ends with optimism. “Maybe we and the next generation can stay and undo all of this to make a liveable future for all of us.” Ultimately, the band hopes the core message of having a choice about whether or not to have children in spite of societal pressures will resonate with their audiences.
The music video for the new track, a sequel to the equally humorous music video for ‘Email’, was shot at an orphanage, adding a layer of connection to the song’s theme. Co-directed by the band and Gibson Santiago, both videos provide a perfect visual representation of Irrevocable’s personality and energy.
